dressing up and baking pies - halloween delights

preparation for halloween has really gotten me in the dressing up spirit! in reverse order, here is my halloween extravaganza:
it's a little far away, but this is our house on halloween night, we passed out candy to many costumed neighbors and i tried most of it first to make sure it was okay to give to others

earlier that day mommy and i carved a jack-o-lantern

at my school halloween party, my friend betti is behind me, she was a ladybug

most of my class waiting for the halloween treats

painting myself and my pumpkin

grammy and i made pumpkin pies, i had my very own that i quickly and enjoyably polished off all by myself

playing dress-up in daddy's t-shirt and one of mommy's sashes, this has become a very entertaining pastime

a hectic start to fall

the start of the fall season has been so crazy in the hermann house. mostly because we haven't been in our house, but rather traveling the country from coast to coast and getting sick in between. i just went to see the doctor for the third time in a month today and was told i have a double ear infection that the antibiotic they put me on last weekend didn't curb during the week. but tonight i'm sleeping soundly while mommy nicely puts up these pictures for me (i told her what to say before i went to bed). they aren't in good chronological order like i asked, but here goes, the best from the last month:
reading with daddy yesterday

with gigi in oregon

i know it's a dark picture, but you have to see that we had so much fun together, feeding each other pizza, me trying to snatch her glasses... and i say gigi with no trouble at all, in fact, most older women with grey hair are now "gigi"

even with all the fun, i was not too keen on getting my picture taken in any posed way with my gigi. here's one attempt where we used books and i sat with mommy and i still don't look too pleased.

this is when we were leaving oregon to fly home and i really wanted to get down and run around some more before they trapped me on the plane for many many hours.

enjoying a cool morning outside auntie ann and uncle michael's house. mommy and daddy were so busy trying to capture a moment with me and gigi that they didn't take any pictures of me with auntie ann and uncle michael. this was not intentional they say. i had a fantastic time in oregon even with the time change, general crankiness from flying so far, and a fever and building ear infection. i can't wait until mommy and daddy take me there again.

sitting in the same high chair stacy sat in when she was a little girl at granny's house, having just finished a piece of cake for conrad's and pops's birthdays. i cannot resist rubbing food in my hair, it is just too pleasureable...

feeding the birds with pops early one morning

the best part about all the flying is that mommy and daddy let me eat just about anything while we're traveling. like an entire ziploc of cheerios! and i've gotten really into the whole "sit in a chair by myself like a big girl" thing as of late. all i have to do is say "sit, big girl" and they give me my own chair with lots of room to spread out!

i am so smart, i can read upside down.

at seventeen months, books are pretty much my favorite toy. not actually reading too much of them, but rather pulling them out, spreading them around the floor and then looking at a picture or two from each, the whole while asking "read please, read read" to mommy or daddy or whoever is around. then i listen to about one or two pages and close the book so i can move on to another one. and by the way, i don't say please because i think it's important, or because i know what it means, but only because mommy taught me that the best thing to say when you want someone to read to you is "read please". that's pretty much the only time i say it, and for me it just means "read now".

and this last video is right after i started learning how to play my recorder, but of course by the time mommy got the camera, i didn't want to play anymore. i love doing that to people, don't you?

more picnic photos

here are some more pictures from our picnic a few weeks ago with mommy's friends at the park. when i first got there i was a little tired and stayed close to mommy. but then i saw my friend livi and i just had to give her a few hugs.

busy weekend

it all started with an early morning playdate with my friend aria in our kitchen... we shared my toys surprisingly well and had a grand time eating cheerios off the floor.

the next day we went to a park and met up with mommy's friends from work and their families for some fun on the playground and a picnic. i love swinging and randy was nice enough to take me on both the baby swing and the big swing, whoosh!

later that evening i went to aria's first birthday party but was too busy playing with all the other kiddos to get my picture taken. mommy and i were pretty worn out after it was over but what a great weekend!

first day of school

on august 24th i started school (really daycare but mommy and daddy keep referring to it as school). nanny kacey went back to school this fall and so it was time for me to do the same. it has been a bit hard for me to be away from home three days a week, but i love playing with the kids and all the fun toys they have on the playground. this is me on the first morning before daddy dropped me off.
and just to give you all an update, i am almost sixteen months old. at my fifteen month appointment dr. ewing told me i weigh 19.5 lbs and am 31 inches long which puts me in the 10th percentile for weight and the 75th for height. i am talking a lot and just started walking on my own which makes mommy and daddy very excited and a little nervous. i love it!

middle bass island (long overdue)

back in july (yes, july) we went on a family trip to middle bass island in the middle of lake erie. everyone came except unk b because he had a broken ankle. it was tons of fun and my first time riding on a ferry boat! we swam a lot, played a lot and even had a color war with all kinds of contests. waiting for the ferry
